Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport played between either two players (singles) or two teams of two players each (doubles). The game is played on a rectangular court divided by a net, and the objective is to hit a felt-covered rubber ball over the net and into the opponent’s court in such a way that the opponent is unable to return it. Points are scored when the opponent fails to return the ball properly, either by letting it bounce twice or by hitting it out of bounds.

Players use rackets to strike the ball and may serve the ball from behind the baseline to initiate play. Tennis matches can be played on various surfaces, including grass, clay, and hard courts, each affecting the ball’s speed and bounce.

The sport is governed by a set of rules established by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). It has four major championships known as Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. Tennis is known for its individual athleticism, technical skills, and strategic gameplay.
